The pinch drop coin magic trick is a variation on the French drop way of making a coin disappear. Hold the coin and between your thumb and the tips of your first three fingers of your right-hand. Bring your left hand over your right as though to grab the coin from your fingertips. As your left hand appears to take the coin, drop it into a finger palm of your right-hand. Drop your right hand to your side and hold it naturally while bringing your left fist up to your mouth to blow on. Follow your left hand with your eyes. As you blow, open your fingers to show the empty hand. Always open your fingers slowly to build the anticipation. This is part of your presentation. While you are showing your empty left hand and the audience is distracted, move the coin in your right-hand from finger palm to classic palm.

Show both sides of your left hand to show it is empty. To make the coin reappear, create a fist with your left hand, make sure that your thumb is over your fingers and that there is a gap between your fingers and the palm of your hand. Keep your hand a little relaxed, so the coin will slip in easily. The coin must be held in classic palm of your right-hand. To move the coin from finger palm to classic palm you need to use your fingers to push the coin into position. As your right-hand comes over to rub the back of your left hand, you let the coin drop onto the gap next to your thumb and let it work its way down as you rub your hand. When the coin is in position you can do your magic by blowing on the hand or clicking your fingers then opening the hand to show the coin.

These are some fundamental and basic methods of making a coin disappear and reappear. You need to learn and understand them as they form the basis for many coin magic tricks.

You need to flip the coin so that it lands in the top (or left) hand. Then, slide your left hand up fingers of your right-hand on a very slight angle so that the coin slides into your right-hand. Then immediately snap both hands shut. Palm the coin which is in your right-hand into either a classic palm or finger palm and drop your right-hand to your side naturally.

Possibly the hardest part of this trick is flipping the coin onto your other hand. Once you can do this, it is a matter of practicing until you can do this trick really quickly, without looking.

To make a coin reappear you push it from a finger palm up your fingers with your thumb. As you are this making the coin reappear, move your hand forward. Make it disappear by sliding it back down your fingers, pulling your hand back as you do so. The forward and backward motion of your hand adds to the coin appearing and disappearing.

<span style="font-size: 11pt;"lang="EN_US">The classic palm is a little more tricky and could take you longer to learn. For this, you need to hold the coin between the muscle at the base of your thumb and the the fleshy part on the side of your hand. Once you are used to holding the coin there, you should be able to stretch your little finger and thumb back out into a more natural position. Then, while holding it in position, start moving and wriggling your fingers. With practice, you should able to do this easily without dislodging the coin. Next, try turning your hand over while keeping the coin in place. Don’t forget to practice moving your fingers.

<span style="font-size: 11pt;"lang="EN_US">Again, try doing everyday activities with a coin in the classic palm position. With practice, you should find yourself able to write and even type without dropping the coin.

To French Drop a coin is when you hold the coin and pretend to grab it with the other hand. To do this trick, make a ‘C’ with your fingers and hold the coin between your thumb and the tips of the first three fingers on your right-hand, thumb on top and fingers underneath. Bring your left hand over as though to take the coin. Slide your thumb between your hand and the coin and curl the fingers of your left hand over the coin. As soon as the coin is masked, relax the fingers of your right hand and let the coin drop down into the finger palm position. Get used to dropping the coin into your hand and into the best position for a finger palm. Turn your right-hand palm down and drop it to your side in a relaxed position while focusing your eyes and attention on the left hand which is now in a fist.

Raise your left hand up and away from your body while keeping your eyes on it to take the attention away from your right-hand. Your audience will watch what you are watching. Then when you are ready, start rubbing away or crumbling the ‘coin’ in your left hand and then open the fingers slowly to show the empty hand. Practice this trick in stages. First, get used to relaxing your fingers so the coin drops into position and then holding it in a finger palm. Then practice coordinating bringing your other hand over to ‘grab’ the coin and forming a fist. Make sure to drop the hand containing the coin to your side in a natural position while focusing your eyes and attention on the other hand.

Finger Palm

The finger palm is probably the easiest way of palming a coin so it is best to master this one first. The coin sits on your middle and ring fingers on the crease where your finger joins your hand. Your fingers curve naturally to hold the coin in place. You should be able to move your hand around quite naturally while still holding the coin in place. By keeping the coin between your middle and ring finger, it leaves your thumb and index finger free to pick other things up, which makes the audience subconsciously think there is nothing in that hand. To start with, use a quarter or a half dollar to get your hand used to holding the coin. Make sure you emphasize the empty hand by looking at it and moving it around. Your audience will automatically look where you are looking. This is called redirection.

It is essential that you learn and practice palming with both hands. A good way to practice is to spend time doing everyday things with a coin palmed in your fingers. You will surprise yourself the things you are able to do it withoit dropping the coin. As you improve, you will find your own way of holding the coin in a finger palm. Some people prefer to hold it with just the ring finger, others prefer to use two fingers. It is up to you.

Remember, palming a coin is about muscle memory. You need to train the muscles on what to do so they remember is without you thinking about it. This only comes from practice and repetition. The more comfortable you are doing something, the easier it becomes.

<span style="font-size: 11pt;"lang="EN_US">There are a few different ways you can palm a coin when performing magic tricks. Palming a coin refers to how you hold the coin to conceal it. Palming is the foundation of many coin magic tricks so it is something you need to be able to do easily. A good magician will learn all the different ways of palming a coin and keep them in his repertoire. By knowing the different ways of doing this, you will be able to make changes on-the-fly depending on your audience.

<span style="font-size: 11pt;"lang="EN_US">When first starting out, experiment with different types of coins to find the ones that suit your hand. Children and teenagers will probably do better with smaller coins. Don’t feel that you can only use coins from your own currency. As an example, the British penny has a good weight and being copper contrasts well with the US silver dollar.
